A Party Planner is born

My late grandfather "Ayah" from my mother's side of family was a "Penghulu", a Village Head. My grandfather's house used to be the grandest house and hosted lots of kenduris, tahlils, gatherings and parties.

As I remember it, the house was "T" shape and there was a long verandah in front. The compound is huge with no fences around it. A cluster of bamboo trees on the right give shades and there was guava tress and mango tress on the left

There was "Tupperware Parties" on Sunday afternoon hosted by my mother.Ladies giggling, refilling bowls of punch, scrumptious finger foods or simply makan-makan.where my parents will invite their friends to come over in the evening.Their friends from all races will walk in and put, sit by the verandah and enjoy the cool air.For whatever reason, I was young&free of such concern what occassion are they celebrating.

Growing up, our birthday parties were always over the top. with friends, families, neighbours and the kids from the orphanage. Then there was the kenduri "Bertindik", then the kenduri for "Berkhatan" for my brothers. Our wedding were grand by those days standard. There was istiadat Khatam Quran, Majlis Berinai Kecil, Majlis Berinai Besar and the celebration would last for 3 days..

My mother did everything over the top.Her parties or kenduris or her simply makan-makan have changed with times and these days she continues to set high bar, extravagant, with amazing little touches or her last minutes ideas comparatively humble to my do-it yourself way

I guess, all the celebrations during my youth planted a seed, either that or the party planning is already in my DNA
